Emily Vucic

Emily is a Molecular Biology Fellow at Open Avenues Foundation as well as a Research Scientist at an Artificial Intelligence (AI)/oncology startup called Zephyr AI—the first start-up spun out by the Venture Capital firm Red Cell Partners. She received her PhD from the Department of Pathology at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada (2014) under the supervision of Dr. Wan Lam—an amazing teacher whose philosophy of mentorship she aspires to espouse. During her PhD she applied systems biology approaches to uncover genetic and epigenetic mechanisms underlying lung cancer development. After a postdoctoral fellowship at NYU studying genetic intratumor heterogeneity in pancreatic cancer (2015-2021), she joined Zephyr AI where she is currently a biologist working with an incredible team of computer and data scientists and with partners from every facet of healthcare, to apply AI to big data to solve problems in precision medicine.
