Athira Varma Jayakuma

Athira Varma Jayakumar is a Computer Science Global Talent Fellow at Open Avenues, where she works with students leading projects in model-based engineering.

Athira is a Senior Software Engineer at DISTek Integration where she works on model-based software development using MATLAB and Simulink to design and test applications for autonomous mining trucks. Athira has 10+ years of experience in Embedded Software Development. She worked in the automotive and off-highway industry developing and testing software for electronic control units in vehicles. She also worked in Virginia Commonwealth University as a Research assistant contributing to research initiatives within the Dependable and Secure Cyber-Physical Systems Lab.

She holds a Master’s degree in Engineering with concentration in Electrical and Computer Engineering and Bachelor’s degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering.

A fun fact about Athira is that she is an ardent fan of Harry Potter and she loves chocolates and extremely spicy Indian food.
